San Diego Asian Americans for Equality (SDAAFE) and Friends of We Chinese in America (FOWCIA) are now partners in Asian Engagement and Recruitment Core (ARC) serving Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) communities

San Diego, CA - San Diego Asian Americans for Equality (SDAAFE) and Friends of We Chinese in America (FOWCIA) have been jointly awarded a grant by  the Asian Health Coalition (AHC) (https://www.asianhealth.org), and became partners of Asian Engagement and Recruitment Core (ARC).  This opportunity is made possible by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), All of Us Research Program (3OT2OD027077-01S2). As part of the Precision Medicine Initiative, the mission of the NIH’s All of Us Research Program is to gather information from one million or more people to help researchers learn how to fit the right treatments to the right people.  The AHC is a Community Engagement Partner in the All of Us Research Program, and established the ARC to shape and implement the All of Us strategy and roadmap to create culturally appropriate, cost-effective, and scalable education and outreach for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs). The ARC is composed of 15 community-based organizations (CBOs) with the AHC as the lead and two national organizations (https://www.thehealthport.org/partners-index). SDAAFE and FOWCIA are two of new CBOs joining ARC this year.

To ensure that all populations benefit from All of Us, it is essential that we develop an infrastructure to allow full participation among populations that have not been included in clinical studies. AANHPIs experience significant health disparities and are among the lowest participants in clinical trials and biomedical research. In order to make sure our communities are represented and benefit from this landmark program, SDAAFE and FOWCIA will work with other ARC partners to raise awareness of health and wellness, and promote the NIH’s All of Us Research Program. All of Us is asking people from all over the U.S. to join so that the research reflects the diversity of our country. People who join will provide information about their health, habits, and what it’s like where they live. By looking for patterns, researchers may learn more about what affects people’s health.

This is the second collaboration between SDAAFE and FOWCIA in a national award, Previously, SDAAFE and FOWCIA have successfully raised the awareness of 2020 US Census among the hard-to-count population in AANHPIs communities under a Count Me 2020 Fund grant. SDAAFE and FOWCIA are looking forward to serving 389,791 AANHPIs, which is 11.9% of whole population in San Diego County (2017 Demographic Profiles).
