As 2025 draws to a close, the world continues to experience rapid and complex changes. Throughout this shifting landscape, WeChinese Magazine has remained dedicated to uncovering, documenting, and presenting the journeys of Chinese communities worldwide. In this issue, we feature updated stories of several recent cover personalities, whose experiences reflect the new perspectives and evolving outlooks emerging along today’s “New Silk Road.”

The term “Silk Road,” coined in 1877 by German geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen, described the ancient trade routes linking East and West. Camel caravans could not carry heavy goods across the desert, but they could transport valuable silk—giving the route its name. From the Tianshan overland routes to Zheng He’s maritime expeditions, silk, porcelain, tea, and the richness of Chinese civilization spread across continents.

For centuries, Chinese footprints have reached every corner of the world. Our mission at WeChinese Magazine is to preserve and present these stories. “Telling Chinese stories and carrying forward Chinese civilization” remains our guiding principle for the year ahead.
