Vice President Kamala Harris, who was visiting Poland, laughed inappropriately when answering the question of whether the United States would accept Ukrainian refugees at a joint press conference with the Polish President on the 10th. A former spokesman for Ukrainian President Zelensky said "It would be a tragedy if she were to become president,".

Harris and Polish President Andrzej Duda were asked whether the U.S. would accept Ukrainian refugees or otherwise ease the pressure on Poland's humanitarian resources; Harris and Duda looked at each other as soon as the reporter finished speaking and waited for the other to respond first. In the end, Harris said with a smile, "Okay, a friend in need is a true friend." And she couldn't stop laughing loudly.

After a seemingly joyous but awkward pause, Duda confirmed that he had asked Harrison to help expedite the consular process so Ukrainian refugees with families in the United States could come to the United States.

Harris' inappropriate smile, which quickly attracted a lot of criticism. Critics said, "This is not a topic that can be joked." Zelensky's former spokeswoman, Iuliia Mendel, responded to a tweet, "It would be a tragedy if this woman were elected president." She later deleted the tweet amid backlash from others.

"Only Harris would find it appropriate to laugh when talking about Ukrainian refugees," tweeted Benny Johnson of Turning Point USA, a conservative group. Former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos Said: "Harris has always been consistent with the Polish leader's live speech; she laughed weirdly; again. Talking about refugees is not a joke. Why she laughed, it's a mess."

This isn't the first time Harris has been criticized for laughing at inappropriate times. "Hold on, hold on, everyone," she said last August when she interrupted reporters about the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, before giggling; that time, The View co-host Meghan McCain Comments on the tweet compared Harris to the "Batman" villain "The Joker," saying she "has some kind of real problem."

Harris said on the 10th that she understands that the unprecedented flow of refugees has brought a burden to Poland. She did not say whether the United States promised to accept a certain number of refugees, but she said that Ukrainians who are currently in the United States and whose visas are about to expire will be allowed to stay in the United States.
