We Chinese in America Media Editor Tang Zhao, April 7, 2022 Forbes released its 2022 list of the world's richest people, with Tesla CEO Elon Musk topping the list.  (US News.com)

Forbes magazine published the list of the world's richest people on the 5th. In addition to showing that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has become the world's richest man and "mysterious shoe king" Zhang Congyuan is the richest man in Taiwan. It also shows that with 735 billionaires, United States has the wealthiest people in the world. Taiwan has squeezed into the top 10 this year, with 51 billionaires ranking tenth.

The ranking shows that 51 people in Taiwan have a net worth of more than $1 billion this year, an increase from 47 people in the previous year. In addition, the net worth of these millionaires totaled US$151 billion, an increase of $35 billion from the previous year. Taiwan's richest man is still held by Zhang Congyuan, the founder of footwear manufacturer Hongfu Industrial, with a net worth of US$11.7 billion. He is also the only rich person in Taiwan whose assets exceed the $10 billion mark.

The total assets of the 735 billionaires in the United States amounted to $4.7 trillion, an increase of $300 billion from the previous year, making it the country with the most billionaires in the world; China ranked second with 539 billionaires, but the number of billionaires decreased from the previous year by 87, as the epidemic disrupts supply chains and heavyweight tech companies face regulatory concerns.

Forbes magazine pointed out that China's biggest losers include Huang Zheng, the former chairman of Pinduoduo, Ma Huateng of Internet giant Tencent Holdings, and Jack Ma of Alibaba.

Other countries with the most billionaires include India in the third place, Germany, Russia, Hong Kong, Canada, Brazil, and Italy in fourth to ninth place, Taiwan jumped to tenth place this year, mainly due to the addition of four new ones.

Forbes said there were 2,668 billionaires worldwide with assets of more than $1 billion this year, down from 2,755 the previous year. In addition to the decrease in the number of wealthy people in mainland China, sanctions, and a sharp drop in the number of wealthy Russians are also one of the reasons.
