Former Air Force Chief of Staff General David Goldfein testified before congress in 2017 about a shortage of aviators, writing in 2016 that the situation was a “quiet crisis.”
A Department of Defense (DoD) report from 2019 noted that by the end of FY 2018, the Air Force was “short 2,000 pilots out of a total inventory of 18,400.”
“I know of personally more than 700 pilots who are actively unvaccinated and have filed a religious accommodation or have filed for a medical exemption or something of the sort,” Bowes said.
A letter from November 2021 from DoD pilots submitting religious accommodation for vaccination to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees details the impacts based on an analysis of a group of 357 pilots that did not want to take the COVID vaccines.
Their estimated value was totaled at $7.8 billion tax dollars, 4,842 years of cumulative service, and 14 years of service on average.
Nineteen percent of them support the mission of nuclear deterrence, 69 percent are instructors, and nine percent are Air Force Weapons Instructors or Navy TOPGUN graduates.
“The implications of 700 pilots is pretty extreme,” Bowes said in an interview with LifeSite news.
Recently, an American Airlines pilot suffered a cardiac arrest between flights after mandatory COVID vaccination, and a law group started suing all major airlines over the vaccine mandates.
Attorneys and doctors have also charged that the FAA is violating its own rule that pilots should not fly after having taken medications that have been approved for less than a year.
A spokesperson for the USAF explained the religious accommodation process for the COVID vaccine in the military branch in an email statement:
“Airmen or Guardians seeking an immunization exemption are required to submit their request to their MAJCOM or Field Command commander, after counseling with their unit commander and a military medical provider. For a religious accommodation, in addition to counseling with the unit commander and medical provider a military chaplain interviews the requester. Exemption requests are evaluated on their own merit and the decision authority must consider the compelling government interest in mission accomplishment, which includes military readiness, unit cohesion and the health and safety of both the member and the unit. Once a decision is made by the MAJCOM or Field Command commander, the service member is notified of the decision. Appeals go to the DAF Surgeon General. The member does not have to get an immunization as long as the request is still in the process of being decided,” the statement reads.
“Members who receive a denial of the accommodation request have 5 calendar days from the denial to 1) begin a COVID-19 vaccination regimen, 2) submit an appeal to the final appeal authority or 3) request to separate or retire. Members who continue refusing to obey a lawful order to receive the COVID-19 vaccine after their accommodation request has been denied or retirement/separation has not been approved will be subject to initiation of administrative discharge proceedings.”

【《We Chinese in America》Media Editor Tang Zhao, July 5, 2022】A letter authored by “Concerned Graduates of West Point and The Long Gray Line claimed,” protesting against mandatory vaccinations, CRT classes, sanitary conditions, progressive political activism, and other “woke actions,” in the military academy. “The Long Gray Line” refers to the continuum of graduates United States Military Academy at West Point, New York .[ U.S. Military Academy cadets attend the 2020 graduation ceremony at West Point, New York, on June 13, 2020. “We wanted to challenge the leadership of the Academy and the Defense Dept on their WOKE actions, CRT, Diversity training and the other discrepancies in the Academy. We found it pervasive at the Naval and Air Force Academies so we knew it was directed from the highest levels of our Military Leadership. We all want the Military to get back on track to training and leading our Armed Forces to secure America and its Citizens,”
The Concerned Graduates of West Point and The Long Gray Line believe that there is a rejection of the principles of the military academy which could endanger its original mission “to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army.”
They sent the letter in the hopes that authorities take heed of their advice regarding the problems that they have spotted.
The letter was sent to the Superintendent of the Academy as well as the President and Directors of the Association of Graduates (AOG), alleging that the West Point Academy is “conducting business in a manner that ignores time-honored principles of the Academy, Constitutional Law, and our sworn oath of office.”
“When you take away time to teach a critical race theory and communist ideology, you’re taking away from the time that could be used for learning how to shoot better, how to operate airplanes better, take care of airplanes through maintenance; and even within the medical corps of the armed forces, it has affected many the doctors and nurses. So it’s a terrible thing. They need to stop it right now. They need to stop enforcing the mandates.”

【《We Chinese in America》Media Editor Tang Zhao, July 2, 2022】Per County of San Diego Communications Office, every year, dozens of dogs end up at shelters after Fourth of July fireworks shows. (The festive pit bull is festooned for the Fourth of July holiday. Photo by Shutterstock.
If you’re lucky, your dog doesn’t react to the explosions and shrill whistles of fireworks set off to celebrate the holiday. But for some dogs and other pets, the sounds can be terrifying due to their sensitive ears.
Dogs kept outdoors or that are unleashed often escape yards in a panic, digging under, breaking through, or jumping over fences. In extreme cases, they can even break through window screens, gates or screen doors from inside to run. They are then at risk for running into traffic, getting lost, or even being attacked by other animals.
At this point, their best bet is to be picked up by a neighbor or an animal control officer for safekeeping until the owner can reclaim their pet.
“We suggest if your dog has a problem with loud noises or if you are not sure how your dog will react, it should be kept inside your home in the most noise-insulating room available to keep it secure and as calm as possible,” said County Animal Services Director Kelly Campbell. “As a backup plan, in case it still manages to run away, we recommend microchipping your pet.”
Pets that are microchipped and licensed are reunited with their owners much quicker than those that are not. If your dog is not microchipped, residents in the unincorporated areas can get their dogs microchipped for a $20 fee at the County’s two shelters in Carlsbad and Bonita by calling (619) 767-2675 for an appointment.
Some additional tips on how to protect your pet this Fourth of July:
- Stay home with your dogs or have someone they like stay with them.
- Do not take your pet to fireworks displays. Keep your pets indoors in a sheltered, quiet area.
- Some dogs become destructive when frightened so remove dangerous objects your pet may chew.
- If you can’t stay with them, leave a television or radio playing at normal volume to keep your pet company while you’re away.
- Never leave pets outside unattended, even in a fenced yard. In their fear, pets that normally wouldn’t leave the yard may escape and get lost.
- If you know your pet is seriously distressed by loud noises like thunder, consult your veterinarian to see if anxiety-relieving medication is appropriate.
- Do not leave your pet in the car. With only hot air to breathe inside a car, your pet can suffer serious health effects, even death, within minutes.
- If you are walking your dog near fireworks displays, be sure your pet is secured on a leash in case it tries to bolt.
If you find a lost pet in the unincorporated area of the County after the fireworks, call County Animal Services’ 24-hour emergency dispatch number at (619) 236-2341 so the animal can be cared for at the shelter. If you lose your pet, check the department’s lost and found page online.
If you see your dog is at County Animal Services, you can pick up your pet starting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.

- NDC: 0071-0535-23, lot No. CK6260, expiration date 03/31/2022
Advice to patients
Patients who are taking Accupril should speak with their health care provider or pharmacy to determine whether they have the recalled product. Those who have the recalled medication should contact Sedgwick, a claims-management company, toll-free at 888-345-0481, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET for instructions on how to return the recalled tablets and receive reimbursement.
Any adverse reactions or quality problems experienced with the use of this product may be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online or by mail or fax using this downloadable form.
What are nitrosamines?
Long-term ingestion of Nnitroso-quinapril, a type of nitrosamine, may be associated with a potential increased cancer risk in humans. However, there is no immediate risk to patients taking the recalled medications, according to Pfizer.
Nitrosamines are present in water and foods such as cured and grilled meats, dairy products and vegetables. Although everyone is exposed to some level of nitrosamines, the FDA set an internationally recognized acceptable daily intake limit for the impurity. The FDA recommends that drugs containing levels above the acceptable daily intake limit be recalled by the manufacturer as appropriate.
A person taking a drug that contains nitrosamines at or below the acceptable daily limit every day for 70 years is not expected to have an increased cancer risk, according to the FDA.

DINING WITH ASIAN FOOD AND WINE: FIREWORKS OF JULY
By
Ronald Jan, M. D.
July 4th brings a celebration with fireworks in the United States. In Korea, the annual International Fireworks Festival is toward the end of July in Pohang at Yeongildae Beach. In 2004, Korean Global Steel Company began celebrating Pohang Citizen’s Day with the “Fireworks Festival”. It has grown into an international fireworks festival hosting a dialogue for Northeast Asian Nations (Russia, China, Japan, Mongolia, and Korea). To celebrate, we can match the fireworks with the explosion of flavors of the Korean BBQ at Paul Cho’s Blue House Korean BBQ in Sacramento.
【Bulgogi at Paul Cho’s Blue House Korean BBQ. Photo Courtesy of Ronald Jan, M. D.】
Beef Bulgogi is thinly sliced beef (ribeye steak or flank steak) marinated for one hour in soy sauce, rice wine, sugar sesame oil, garlic, etc. then…grilled or pan-fried on high heat, caramelizing the sugar. Starch noodles & mushrooms are cooked in the slightly sweet and savory sauce then serve with thinly sliced scallions. The result: smoky, sweet, and savory.

Of course, Korean food is served with side dishes, called “banchan.”

【Banchan at Paul Cho’s Blue House Korean BBQ. Photo Courtesy of Ronald Jan, M. D.】
But finding the right wine to complement Korean food can be a challenge, because of the many different flavors. And so, it is best to select the wine based on the flavors and texture of the main dish - in this case, Beef Bulgogi rather than the flavors of the banchan.
【Due Vigne’s Barbera. Photo Courtesy of Ronald Jan, M. D.】
In Sacramento, Due Vigne di Familia offers a Barbera with light, soft tannins which will soften even further with the fat and chewiness and umami flavors of the steak. And the Barbera brings enough acid to add freshness to the meal without being too heavy or earthy and the alcohol will help integrate the flavors and enhance the fruit flavors of red cherries and blackberries.
And so, this July in the midst of the fireworks, try the explosion of flavors with Korean BBQ and a nice wine to celebrate the summer.
