 【《华人》传媒编辑王惠豫2022年4月21日 】大多数有工作经历的读者都会有参加为同事举行的生日派对，以及同事们为自己的庆生派对的经历。公司为员工，或同事们自发组织庆生派对似乎普遍成为工作场所的一种文化，以促进员工的交流，提升和谐氛围。可是最近发生在肯塔基州一家公司的庆生派对却让人跌破眼镜，非但没有达到和谐目的，反而引发了一场官司。

教授因称变性学生为“先生”遭大学警告；教授告大学获40万美元赔偿
 【《华人》传媒编辑王惠豫2022年4月20日 】2018年一月，俄亥俄州南部肖尼州立大学(Shawnee State University)的哲学教授尼古拉斯·梅里韦瑟(Nicholas Meriwether)在一名变性学生在课堂上举手时称她为“先生”(Sir)。下课后，该学生要求梅里韦瑟教授在称呼她时使用she/her（她/她的）代名词，但教授没有同意这位学生的要求。于是这名学生对梅里韦瑟教授提出投诉，引发了学校的正式调查。

大学调查的结论是：梅里韦瑟教授在课堂上制造了一个“充满敌意的环境”。梅里韦瑟教授应该使用该学生的正确代名词。该大学在梅里韦瑟教授的人事档案中发出了书面警告，称他可能会因违反大学的非歧视政策而被解雇或停职，但没有报酬。
梅里韦瑟教授认为这“违背了他的宗教信仰和哲学信念”，他提出，用自我认定的性别认同来称呼所有学生，并在他的教学大纲中加入一项免责声明，说明他这样做只是在“被迫”的情况下才这样做的，这是否符合学校的政策，他被告知不符合。
他还提出，在不使用性别称谓的情况下，可以用首选的法定姓名来称呼该学生，但他仍然拒绝将该学生称为女性。
梅里韦瑟教授随后起诉了这所大学。他的案件被联邦地区法院驳回，理由是缺乏法律地位。
